  • NMP is not listed as a Hazardous Air Pollutant (HAP) under Section 112 of the Clean Air Act.

  • NMP is not listed as a Hazardous Substance, Priority Pollutant or Toxic Pollutant under the Clean Water Act.

  • NMP is a volatile organic compound (VOC) and may be subject to regulations limiting emissions from VOCs.

  • NMP is listed in SARA Title III, Section 313(d)(2)(B) based on test data indicating reproductive and developmental toxicity in laboratory animals.

  • NMP is listed under TSCA and is subject to reporting in the Toxics Release Inventory.

  • NMP is not currently regulated under RCRA or CERCLA.

  • NMP is not listed as a cancer causing agent by IARC, NTP, or OSHA.

  • BASF lists the following biodegradability factors for NMP:
    BOD(5) = 1,100 mg/g NMP
    COD = 1,600 mg/g NMP

  • NMP is generally considered to be biodegradable. The above biological (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) values can be used in discussion with your local publicly owned treatment works (POTW). Detailed information is available from your specific supplier.

  • NMP is mostly reclaimable through separation or distillation. The low vapor pressure and high boiling point of NMP requires distillation under vacuum.

  • Waste disposal will depend on the components of the blend used and the contaminants added through the cleaning process.
