Brushing
Overview
Brushing is the process of rubbing surfaces with dry bristles to remove debris. Brushes usually are made of wire, animal hair, plastic, or synthetic materials that have been impregnated with abrasive grit. Brushing may be done by hand or may be highly automated.
Brushing effectively removes scale, rust, paint and other tightly adhered materials. It is not effective for fluid removal. Brushing with abrasive bristles also may remove some base material from the part. Brushes have been used for removing very small particles at the highest semiconductor cleanliness levels.
