Copying and Saving Factbook Screens

The information in this Factbook, unlike the hardcopy reports from which it was compiled, can be reprinted and electronically "cut and pasted" into reports, presentations, and other documents. It is distributed free by EPA's Office of Solid Waste and may be copied and shared without restriction.

Table-formatted screens, such as this one, may be saved using your browser's "Save as..." command. If offered a choice, save as Source or HTML to preserve formatting.

Most of the information in MSW Factbook is presented in graphical form. The GIF image format is used throughout; images from the Internet Factbook can be opened in most graphics programs, and even pasted directly into documents in some word processors.

To copy a graphic screen, you must select and save the GIF file(s) that make up the screen. The process is similar in Netscape and Internet Explorer:

  • right-click (Windows) or click-and-hold (MacOS) on the image you wish to copy
  • select "save as image file" from the pop-up menu

The instructions above do not preserve the structure of the page; the Tab Bar, Side Bar, Help Button and Main Screen are separate images. If you use the "Save" command in your browser's File menu, you will store the structure of the page, but not the image files. (See Navigating for details.)

If you would like to be able to browse off-line, or refer to images without dialing in, we recommend that you download the MSW Factbook application for Windows .
