Module 1: Solid Waste Reduction

Implementing Your Program

Once you’re ready to start implementing your program, refer back to Step 5 of the Guidebook for general information about holding an effective kick-off event and Step 6 of the Guidebook for ideas to encourage and maintain participation.

Monitoring Your Program

Once your program has been implemented, the coordinator and team members begin the task of monitoring the program. Refer to Step 7 of the Guidebook for general information about how monitoring your program and keeping good records can help maintain and expand your program. Also, Worksheet G—Monitoring and Evaluation can assist you in this important process.

Expanding Your Program

Think you’re done? Think again. Once your waste reduction program is up and running and all the bugs and kinks have been worked out, convene a meeting of your Green Team to talk about next steps. P2AD suggests the natural next step is to look at your business’s purchasing habits.

In Module 2, Environmentally Preferable Purchasing, you’ll learn the why’s and how’s of implementing an environmentally preferable procurement policy in your business. We’ll explain the concept of greening the supply chain, provide sample “green” contract language, and more.

Get Recognition for a Job Well Done

Implementing a waste reduction program in your business or organization may qualify you for recognition in state and national programs. Check out EPA’s WasteWise Program and the P2AD Partnership Program to see if your business or organization qualifies.
