Dibasic Esters
Environment
- DBEs are volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and may be regulated in your area.
- DuPont reports that DBE, tested in a batch, aerated reactor and electrolytic respirometer, is biodegradable and noninhibitory up to 300 ppm.
- When allowed to acclimate, municipal wastewater treatment readily degraded DBE up to 1,000 ppm. With unacclimated sludge, DBE readily degraded to 300 ppm. DBE also passed the European Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) test for biodegradability.
- DBE can be recycled by vacuum distillation.
- DBE may be burned for disposal.
