Running Your Green Building Program
Educate and engage employees
Hold kick-off event and invite all employees. Introduce the team members and suggest how all employees can participate. Stress support, cooperation, and patience needed from all employees.
Monitor and track progress
Record data and make visible and available to all on a daily, weekly or monthly basis as is reasonable.
Communicate results
Highlight results in easy to read big bold letters on a bulletin board in a common place. Use a continuous graph for tracking results if appropriate.
Modify / Correct Direction
As the program progresses, determine if a correction is required based on the measurements and observations. Such corrections or modifications should be considered normal and should not be considered a crisis or failure.
Maintain the program
Once the program results are achieved, celebrate! Then begin again with another aspect or area that was identified as a second priority. Continue to measure as results exceed expectations in many cases. Institutionalize measurement as a way of working and communicating.
Expand the program
Suggest more complex issues and continue to expand the program to involved more people and aspects of the operation.
Case Studies
