Solvent Alternatives Guide
Ultrasonics

Economics

  • The following is a very broad range of costs:
    • Tabletop systems < $1000 (no pumps, filters, etc.)
    • Precision cleaning system > $500,000 (pumps, filters, recirculation, programmable logic control (PLC), heaters, dryer)

  • Production rate is very important in sizing ultrasonic equipment.

  • Cleanliness levels are very important and will affect filtration requirements.

  • Tank sizes should be specified based on all possible future uses.

  • Energy consumption may be high, depending on heaters, amount of time that ultrasonics are on, amount of pumping, etc.

  • Use timers and temperature controllers to reduce power consumption.

  • Tank deterioration due to ultrasonics depends directly on weld and fabrication quality.

  • System life should be at least 5 years.

Cost Model

1. Approximate volume of wash load.

The cost of the equipment depends on the total volume of each. Estimate the desired dimensions of a single batch of parts in feet.

Length, feet
Width, feet
Heigh, feet
2. How many wash tanks do you want to use?
One is usually enough for light soils. Two may be helpful for heavy soils or very dirty parts.

3. How many rinse tanks do you want to use?
One is a minimum. Two or more are recommended for very high production rates or when very high cleanliness levels are necessary.

4. Water or Solvent Supply.

Water will be necessary for aqueous cleaning. Solvents will be necessary for solvent cleaning.

Include Include water or solvent supply lines in the calculation if lines are not already in place.

Enter the distance between the spray washer and the nearest source of water or solvent in feet.

5. Tank Pad
Include Tank Pad in calculation if sufficient floor support is not already in place.
Please enter the tank pad surface area requirements in ft2.

6. Electrical Conduit

Electrical conduit installation will be necessary if electric service is not already available at the desired washer location.
  Include Electrical Conduit
Please enter the distance between the power source and the cleaning tanks location in feet.

Please enter your sales tax as a whole number:  %
* i.e. A sales tax of 5% should be entered as 5, not .05 or 1.05

 Include design and engineering costs
