Supercritical Fluids
Economics
- High-purity CO2 is approximately $0.07/lb. One reference quoted liquid CO2 at $.10/lb.
- Capital equipment costs for a manual machine with a 12-inch deep and 5-inch diameter vessel are approximately $165,000.
- According to Los Alamos, their Super Scrub system's six major electrical consumers use the power in pulses. The refrigeration system used to cool the CO2 gas back to liquid is in continuous operation during flow varying from about 6-22 kW. Idle time is presented as very low cost although not zero. The total electricity usage to initially fill the
machine with CO2 was roughly 1.6 kW. Compressed air should require less than 2 kW.
