II. Employee Initiatives
There are a variety of individual
sustainability initiatives that have been implemented
throughout DENR, both at employee work sites and at their
homes.
DENR employees are ...
- Recycling paper, newspapers, plastic, glass, aluminum and metal cans, cardboard,
junk mail, magazines, and envelopes
- Composting at work and at home
- Reducing waste by buying things
with the least packaging, purchasing in bulk and reusing plastic and paper bags, containers and jars
- Walking and biking to work
- Carpooling
- Bringing their lunch or walking
to lunch on ozone code red days
- Using reusable plates, cups and flatware instead of styrofoam, plastic and paper products
- Relocating closer to work
- Participating in the Division of
Air Quality’s Ozone
Action Days Telework Project
- Conserving electricity by
reducing the use of AC and heat
- Recycling unwanted gifts through
silent auctions to raise money for charities
- Participating in food recovery programs
DENR’s employees
are committed to environmental sustainability concepts and want to help
the Department become a model of sustainability for all state government
agencies.
