American Fiber Manufacturers Association
The American
Fiber Manufacturers Association, Inc (AFMA), is a domestic trade association
representing U.S. producers of more than 90 percent of domestic production of manufactured
fibers, filaments and yarns. AFMA manages programs on government relations, international
trade policy, the environment, technical issues and educational services. Committees of
experts from AFMA members companies work on each of these subjects.
The American Fiber Manufacturers Association maintains an active working group of
company representatives to coordinate member activities in pollution prevention,
environmental decision making, recycling and downstream waste abatement. In recent years,
AFMA has paid particular attention to life cycle assessment and the applications of life
cycle concepts to the development of management tools for environmental problems. Since
the guiding principle for AFMA for initiatives is product stewardship, both suppliers and
customers are an integral part of most activities.
