EM leaders honoredTwo deputy assistant secretaries within the U.S.
Department of Energy’s Environmental
Management program have been recognized for their results-focused
leadership. Gerald G. Boyd, who heads the Office
of Science and Technology, and David G. Huizenga, Boyd’s
counterpart at the Office
of Integration and Disposition, have been honored with Presidential
Rank Awards for Meritorious Service. Open to career senior executives
of the federal government, the award is bestowed by the President
of the United States to recognize outstanding leaders who demonstrate
integrity, industry, and commitment to public service. These are leaders
who have successfully balanced the needs and perspectives of customers,
stakeholders, and employees and who've fostered partnerships and community
solutions to achieve results. Award winners are nominated by their agency heads, evaluated by boards
of private citizens, and approved by the President. The evaluation
criteria focus on the executives’ leadership in producing results. Boyd and Huizenga are among a select group that received meritorious
awards. Given to recognize long-term accomplishments, the award goes
to only 5% of career senior executives. The award includes a bonus
of 20% of the executive’s base pay, a silver pin, and a framed
certificate signed by the President.
