Grandview Farms


Farm Description

Grandview farms is in Schuyler, NE. Its 200 acres has been in the family for three (going on four generations). Greg Hogel is the owner/operator assisted by his daughter, Sara, who keeps the books. Grandview Farms produces corn and about 2500 hogs per year, all born and raised on the farm in a farrow-to-finish operation.

Like most family farms, outside income is needed. Greg's wife, Mary is a nurse. Greg and Mary have three daughters (left to right): Sara, a student in business administration, Karen, a teacher, and Julie, the other nurse in the family. Granddaughter Hanna completes Greg's harem.


 

Environmental Policy Statement

Grandview Farms follows the current environmental requirements for safe production of all grains and livestock. We continually search for the most effective means to reduce pollution of the environment and loss of natural resources.

 

Environmental Aspects

The significant environmental aspects of Grandview farms are the Use of fossil fuels and electricity, the use of fertilizers and the use of purchased feeds.

Environmental Goals and Objectives for 2002

During 2002, Grandview Farms will

  1. Make better use of manure in the cropping plan by testing the soils and applying lime and fertilizer only where needed.
  2. Test if it is feasible to use low phytate corn to lower the usage of phosphorus in the feed ration.

Since 2002 is the first year in the IERE program, there is no report on previous environmental goals.

 

Compliance

Grandview farms is subject to the local noxious week regulations and complies to their requirements.
