Libby Creek Farm

Farm Description

Libby Creek Farm is a 70 acre certified organic, diversified crop and animal farm, located in southwest York County, Nebraska, along Interstate 80. We raise vegetables, grains, fruits, flowers and herbs and vegetables, and direct market to eastern Nebraska and through our website: http://www.libbycreek.com.

We also raise chickens and eggs, pigs and occasionally beef calves as grazing animals for sustainable, healthy meats and soil improvement. Our interests are in clean, healthy, fresh food growing for our own family and others. Our family’s farming heritage goes back to 1881 in York County.

Environmental Policy

Libby Creek Farm’s goal is to plan for continual environmental improvement in farm product production. Along with being certified organic, we strive to deliver safe, sustainable, quality fruits, vegetables, grains and herbs. With conservation practices, we can improve soil quality for continued plant, animal and human nutrition

Environmental Aspects

The significant environmental aspects of Libby Creek Farm are burning fossil fuels and use of electricity.

Goals and Objectives for 2002

  1. During 2002, we will plant at least 1000 native trees for windbreaks
  2. We will plant native grasses as intercropping between tree rows.
  3. We will harvest 3 acres less annual crops, thus increasing wildlife habitat

2002 is our first year in the IERE program, so we have no report on goals from last year.

Compliance

We must and do comply with the local noxious weed regulations.
