Heavy Metals Remediation Symposium



Vashon Maury-Island soil is laced with heavy metals.

Scientists working with the VMICC reported their findings to the 118 members of the community at the Symposium.

Items covered were:

  1. The nature and extent of arsenic, cadmium and lead in Vashon-Maury soil.
    Just how dirty our dirt is.
    Which heavy metals are contaminating our soil.
    Where the concentrations are highest.

  2. The risks from exposure to contaminants
    Our children are most vulnerable to soil contamination, but where are the real risks? Disease? Injury?
    Long-term effects v. shorter-term reactions.

  3. Practical remedies to improve soil and protect your family, your pets, your home
    The solutions are fairly simple.
    It doesn't take much to clean our dirt, protect our families and prevent illness.
