Fluidized Bed Incinerator for Municipal Waste

Kobe Steel has been active in the waste incineration field for more than twenty years by means of our own developed fluidized bed incinerator. To satisfy the various demands for the adequate waste incineration, Kobe Steel can offer the highly competitive services covering engineering, construction and operation with maintenance.
This pamphlet presents an outline of Kobe Steel's Fluidized Bed Incinerator technology.

[FEATURES]

The Fluidized Bed Incinerator has many advanced features, including:
1) Flexible ability to burn various kinds of waste.

2) Clean ash and exhaust gas because of complete combustion achieved by the effective mixing of primary air and secondary air .

3) No moving parts inside the incinerator, resulting in no mechanical trouble.

4) Easy start and stop procedure because of the high thermal heat capacity

[STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION OF MAIN PARTS]

Waste Feeder

The original waste feed system (coarse crushing / agitation) enables adequate feed conditions to the incinerator. Feeding rate of the waste is controlled by the automatic combustion system.

Incinerator

<Bed Zone: Air Distributor>

There is a cone shaped air distributor at the bottom of the furnace, comprised of special TU tubes arranged in order of descending diameter toward the furnace wall. The air distributor produces a spiral flow and strong fluidization of sand, thereby promoting mixing of the waste and sand, raising combustion efficiency, and keeping the fluidized bed at a high temperature. Non combustibles are gathered to a central discharge spout.

<Free board>

A specially designed free board generates an eddy flow of combustion gas and air which promotes effective agitation of combustion gas and secondary air. Complete s combustion is obtained through the above process.

<Refractory>

The bed and lower zone of the free board, where sand abrasion is harsh, is specially protected by fire bricks. The application of fire bricks to the cylindrical-shaped incinerator permits thermal expansion and prolongs the refractory's life.

Non Combustible Discharge System

Non combustibles are lead to a water cooled screw extractor through the central discharge spout, which is tapered to prevent clogging. Non combustibles are wrapped in the sand, thereby enabling a continuous and smooth discharge.
The sand is separated from the waste by a vibrating screen and returned to the incinerator.

[APPLICATIONS: TYPICAL FLOW DIAGRAM]

Kobe steel is carrying out the engineering work, and offering a total incineration system for municipal waste, which integrates energy recovery processes into the Fluidized Bed Incinerator, as illustrated below.

Till 1995, Kobe Steel has supplied 20 ( including 4 plants under construction) full-scale Fluidized Bed Incineration Plants for Municipal Waste, which are enjoying efficient and smooth operation.
In addition, we have also constructed many Fluidized Bed Incinerators for sewage sludge.
With our experience in the field, and with our extensive resources, we are able to provide most up to date technology available in the market.
