Waste Treatment Technology in JAPAN
Drying, Incineration and Melting
(2) In the KADDIS, warming of digester is carried out without any boiler, by
direct contacting between the dryer outlet gas(medium high temperature air)
and sludge to be fed to the digester. This function of digester warming makes
the KADDIS very energy-saving.
(2) The dryer is of flush type, using hot air as a drying thermal medium and
consisting of a disintegrator, an upflow drying main pipe, a cyclone
collector and some hoppers.
The sludge cake is fed into the disintegrator after mixed with dried powder/
granule, where the hot air is sent into from the heat exchanger mounted to
the fornace.
The cake becomes the powder/granule whose humidity content is 10a/, or less
through the disintegrator and the upflow main pipe, then being separated
into a hopper in a cyclone collector. The dried sludge powder/granule can
be discharged from the hopper when necessary.
(3) In the furnace which is of vertical type with a cyclone burner, the sludge
powder/granule from the dryer is incinerated at the temperature of
700 - 800 deg.C.A heat exchanger which generates hot air to be used in the
dryer is also mounted to the furnace.
(4) In the sludge warming tower, the dryer outlet air of high humidity and of
medium temperature is washed out by spraying thickened liquid sludge to
remove the humidity from the air and simultaneously to warm up the liquid
sludge to be fed to the digester.
(2) The KADDIS can be not only used in the sewage treatment plant but also applied
effectively for the treatment of sludge from various sources, the sludge
homogeneity being the only one requirement.
1. Introduction
(l) Kawasaki's new KADDIS is an integrated system of sewage sludge cake treatment.
The KADDIS can be operated in two ways in accordance with operator's option;
while the system can work as a dryer only where sludge powder/granule is
generated as product, incinerating mode can be easily selected.
2. Facilities and processes of the KADDIS
(l) The KADDIS consists of three (3) elemental facilities:drying facilities
(a dryer), a furnace and a sludge warming tower.
3. Applications
(1) The KADDIS may be applied most suitably to the sewage treatment plant wher
digester is equipped with and sludge cake treatment (drying or incineration)
is necessary.
The digester is, however, not indispensable element in the KADDIS. When the
digester is not combined, oil can be easily used as an auxiliary fuel. The
excellent high thermal efficiency of the KADDIS can minimize the fuel
consumption in this case.
