REFUSE TRANSFER STATION

1. Purpose

A number of collection vehicles are required as well as long time if there are large quantities of refuse and/or a wide range of district must be covered. In addition, treatment facilities have been recently located more and more distant from city areas because of difficulty in finding available construction sites. And the refuse transportation efficiency has become lower because of traffic congestion. The refuse transfer station is a system designed to improve refuse transportation. This station is located near a collection district. Refuse is compacted and reduced in volume to one - half to one - third so that much refuse may be loaded into a single large container.

2. Main Equipment

1) Receive and Feed Equipment
A set of equipment which measures and receives refuse carried in the station by
refuse collection vehicles. This Equipment consists of weigh-bridge, refuse receive
   hopper, feeder and other equipment.

2) Compactor Equipment This Equipment which compacts and loads refuse into containers includes compactor, hydraulic system and other equipment.

3) Container Handling Equipment A set of equipment which transfers containers from the location where the compactor is connected to the location where loading and unloading are made by container transporting vehicles.

4 ) Container Containers of 17 to 40 m3 are available.

5) Container Transporting Vehicle A vehicle used to transport containers to an incineration facility and/or land fill.

4. Capacity

1) Throughput
   Construction records are listed below.

Plant E uses a semi-trailer as container vehicle and 20 tons of refuse is loaded in one container. The others are plants in Japan. 5 to 8 tons of refuse is loaded in one container.

2) Transportation Efficiency As refuse delivered by five to ten collection vehicles is loaded in one container, a substantial increase of transportation efficiency is ensured.

5. Features

The following diagram shows an full automatic system with enough compaction and minimum spillage.
