Equipment
Description
Previously,
paint guns were often cleaned manually using toxic solvents such as toluene,
xylene, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), and acetone. These flammable solvents
are a significant health hazard and source of hazardous waste. The automated
paint gun cleaning unit contains spray nozzles that blast the guns with
solvent. Because the solvent can be reused numerous times while in the unit,
as opposed to wiping it on to the paint gun with rags, the requirement to
dispose of large quantities of waste solvent is reduced. The tank is enclosed,
and solvent volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions are insignificant.
Solvents used in the unit should be selected based on the type of coatings
to be removed. Use the least hazardous applicable solvent.
Benefits
of Use
Reduces labor
to clean paint guns manually. Reduces quantity of solvent used in cleaning
process. Reduces costs by decreasing waste solvent, paint rags, and process
time. Meets stringent air quality rules, including South Coast Air Quality
Management District, CA, (SCAQMD) Rule 1171 for VOC emissions.
