Dust Seal for Bomb Cart Brakes

Equipment Description

FASTT was presented with a unique problem concerning the MHU 191/M (used to move ordnance for loading on aircraft). Under certain conditions, the front wheel assembly on the carts has a design flaw which allows sand to enter the brake housing. This sand causes the wheels to seize, resulting in more frequent maintenance and extra labor. No P2 Equipment List "fix" to the problem existed, so FASTT worked with activity personnel to design, engineer, and manufacture a dust seal for the MHU 191/M’s front wheel assembly. Initial design and manufacture cost of $3,500 was provided by FASTT.
Ten-year savings is estimated to be $149,400 at that activity alone.

Benefits of Use

Annual labor savings by eliminating the extra maintenance caused by sand. The maintenance interval for the MHU 191/M as designed is 52 weeks. With sand entering the brake housing, the carts were being serviced every week of the year.
