Equipment Description Aqueous
parts washers are cleaning cabinets with spray nozzles positioned along
the interior walls and ceiling that direct a heated, high-pressure stream
of water and detergent at parts to be cleaned. The combination of temperature
and blasting pressure removes dirt, grime, oil, grease, and fluorescent
penetrants. This presents an environmentally sound method for cleaning parts
and components to replace the use of PD-680 dip tanks and Safety-Kleen units,
reducing the quantity and toxicity of the waste stream, reducing labor time,
and providing a safer work environment. Replaces ultrasonic cleaners, vapor
degreasers, and solvent tanks at the I-level which conventionally used 1,1,1
- trichloroethane or other ozone depleting solvents.
Benefits of Use Reduces labor time by 25% compared with Safety Kleen tank, 50% compared with PD-680 tanks. For aircraft wheel cleaning, it was found to reduce labor by 80%. Replaces hazardous solvents with a biodegradable detergent. Reduces hazardous waste disposal costs. Reduces toxicity of waste stream: 45% compared with PD-680 tanks and 27% compared with Safety Kleen tanks.
