Facts About Your
Car & the Environment…
- For families with
several vehicles, the pollution from their cars, vans, SUV, and pickup
trucks is often greater than that from electricity and heating fuel
uses, waste disposal, and other household activities.
- American cars and
light trucks alone account for more fossil fuel CO2 (Greenhouse Gas)
emissions than the total nationwide emission of all but three other
countries in the world.
- Improving fuel
efficiency of cars and light trucks is one of the single biggest steps
we can take to reduce global warming.
- Autos produce
almost 50% of some air pollutants, such as nitrogen oxides, that help
form ground level ozone.

How to
Choose a "Green and Clean" Car
Making
motor vehicles cleaner and more efficient is an important step toward
sustainable transportation. Consumer’s choice can make all the
difference.
Look for vehicles
with low emission standards -e.g., Low Emission Vehicles, (LEV), Ultra
Low Emission Vehicles (ULEV), and Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicles
(SULEV)
Consider
Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFV) such as hybrids, electric, bi-fuel, CNG,
and others for appropriate applications
Choose higher fuel
economy vehicles
Use low sulfur
content gasoline which improves a car’s emission controls
Ask your Dealer
which models are the least polluting
