| SITUATION: |
In the production of sensor instruments for a customer, Delta M needed
a third-party certification of the instruments at high pressure (10,000
pounds per square inch). Delta M did not have the equipment to perform
the pressure tests and could not find a commercial vendor with the equipment
to test the sensors. |

Delta M's management called the Oak Ridge Centers for Manufacturing
Technology (ORCMT) and arranged for the sensors to be tested at the Y-12 National Security Complex.

| RESULTS: |
The sensors passed the pressure testing and were certified to withstand
10,000 psi (five times their standard rating). Reg McCulloch, technical
director for Delta M, said the certification would allow the company to
sell between $150,000 and $200,000 worth of the sensor instruments.
"We have been awfully happy with our interaction with ORCMT. The people
are very professional. We defined what needed to be done, and they found
the people and equipment to do it," McCulloch said. |
Technical assistances provided to the private sector by the Oak Ridge
Centers for Manufacturing Technology (ORCMT) and its manufacturing extension
partners throughout the United States.
