DOE's Office of Science and Technology is providing incentives for DOE sites to deploy innovative remediation technologies (see Initiatives, April and August 1997). Originally known as Technology Deployment Initiative, this program is now called Accelerated Site Technology Deployment. Sixteen ASTD projects will share $27 million in FY98. On November 19, the ASTD Selection Committee approved the first two deployment plans: the Alternative Landfill Cover System Development on the Sandia National Laboratories Mixed-Waste Landfill in Albuquerque and the Integrated Technology Suite for Cost Effectively Delineating Contamination in Support of Soil Remediation Action at the Fernald Site.
