EnviroTRADE goes international

System used in Russia

DOE's International Technology Exchange program in the Office of Technology Development, in conjunction with Sun Microsystems, is setting up six satellite nodes throughout Russia. To date, four of these stations are being utilized. They are located in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Chelyabinsk 70, and Chelyabinsk 65. The remaining two, whose sites have not yet been decided, will be delivered in conjunction with the First International Environmental Technology and Business Action Conference to be held in Moscow, Russia in September 1994. These satellite nodes are to be a basis for developing a data communication network across Russia. A symposium was presented with each delivery of the satellite nodes. These events were designed to educate the Russians on EnviroTRADE and other tools.

During a NATO Advanced Research Workshop held in Visegrad, Hungary, June 21-23, 1994, the data from the former Soviet Union site at Komarom, Hungary was used to demonstrate the application of the EnviroTRADE database system as a tool to assist with alternative site cleanup measures. The purpose of the workshop was to develop a strategy for the identification and selection of appropriate low-cost and innovative site remediation technologies and approaches for remediating a typical abandoned site in the former Soviet Union.

Sandia has been invited to demonstrate the EnviroTRADE Information System at the Second International Symposium and Exhibition on Environmental Contamination in Central and Eastern Europe to be held in Budapest, Hungary in September 1994. The system will be demonstrated during the entire symposium.

An example of EnviroTRADE can be viewed on the World Wide Web using an application such as Mosaic or Cello.
