                Scrap tire homes keep rolling along. Robert Steuteville. 
            Abstract: Taos, New Mexico-based Solar Survival Architecture 
            continues to create new designs for homes that use recovered 
            materials instead of traditional building materials. The company has 
            a database of 300 Earthships, many of which were constructed from 
            1990-1994. The basic structural unit of these homes are recovered 
            rubber tires, which are packed with 300 lbs. of earth to become 
            building blocks. Aluminum cans are used to build the interior walls, 
            while scraps of glass and wood are used as decorations.
