Recent Florida Successes Say it All:

$300,000 per year savings!

A luxury van converter reduced VOC emissions by 28% while increasing production by 15%- a 38% reduction of VOCs per van. Substituting and reformulating coatings and improving application methods reduced emissions. Substituting woods eliminated the need for stains. Process changes for exterior patterns also eliminated painting.

$8,000 per year savings!

A small manufacturer of reciprocating saw blades used trichloroethylene to degrease the blades before painting. Substituting an aqueous cleaner eliminated their use of the hazardous material. The cleaning solution has a light, but effective rust inhibitor and residue has been compatible in the vacuum heat treat furnace.

$489,000 per year savings!

A printed circuit board manufacturer utilized counterflow rinsing, flow restrictors and on-off water flow sensors to reduce waste water discharge from their plant from 85 million gallons per year in 1989 to 65 million gallons per year in 1990. Using waste stream segregation and ion exchange units, the company is now recycling 100,000-120,000 gallons per day of waste water.

$7,000 per year savings!

Reusing wash water, replacing an outdated annealing oven, and counterflow rinsing on the plating lines substantially reduced water use costs for an electrical connector fabricator, while conserving Florida's most precious natural resource. The big cost saving, though, was due to the subsequent reduction of hazardous waste sludge by some 20 tons per year. Unquantified savings include freedom from worry about a possible hazardous waste mishap or future additional environmental liability.
