Hali Büromöbel GmbH established in 1942, is producer of office furniture. They are located in Eferding, Austria. The factory have a staff of 470. This case study presents experiences and results of waste and pollution prevention projects under PREPARE program

Cleaner Production Application

The key points for the cleaner production project include,

Integration of "Ecodesign" criteria into the development of products, resulted in the production of water soluble lacquers and ecologically improved wood fiber and chip-boards.
Improvement and extension of waste segregation in production and other industrial operations.
The environmental protection officer is appointed to supervise the projects. He is involved in communication with the management and deciding the annual goals to guarantee long-term planning and control..
Publication of an eco-report.
The involvement of all the employees into the environmental activities.

Environmental and Economic Benefits

The project resulted in following benefits,

Waste avoidance measures and reuse of waste has resulted in 47% less industrial waste.
Quarterly data collections and analyses with a special software has resulted in an eighteen percent drop in use of raw materials.
50% reduction of water consumed for cooling
