Electronic Communication

A second goal was to encourage the use of electronic communication to convey information throughout the department and to the department's clients. Anticipated barriers to implementation are equipment and networking costs, and the time and expense of training. The Electronic Communication Committee has been formed with Cathy Morris serving as chair.

Objectives

Representatives from across the department have worked to develop plans and recommendations for agency-wide initiatives for providing increased electronic communication internally and to our clients. The recommendations will be presented to the Secretary later this year.

Accomplishments

Throughout the department there have been major steps taken toward providing enhanced electronic resources for North Carolina's citizens. Among these are

  • Increased reliance on electronic distribution of internal communications such as schedules and vacancy postings
  • Growing Internet access to information about departmental activities and programs
  • Increased electronic access to information about the collections within the following repositories:

Museum of History
State Archives
Museum of Art

Future Plans

  • Continue work on increasing internal use of electronic communication
  • Continue work on enhancing electronic resources available to departmental clients
