The Eastwood Company, founded in 1978, is a mail order auto restoration company located in Malvern, Chester County. The company mails about three million catalogs each year, including The Auto Shop which is a catalogue partnership between Sears and Eastwood. The Eastwood Company's products include abrasive blasting, welding equipment, painting supplies specialty coatings, and the tools and equipment necessary for auto restoration. Eastwood has developed and now markets the first powder coating system designed for small shops and home hobbyists on the market today. Eastwood's HotCoat powder coating system utilizes an innovative patent pending design that produces a safe, environmentally friendly, affordable powder coating. The HotCoat system retails for only $149, thousands of dollars less than any other powder coating system available. Through the development of its powder coating system, Eastwood is giving the small shop and home hobbyist an alternative to conventional solvent based products. Eastwood's patent pending system features a powder coating gun with a unique static chamber design which permits a lower, safer voltage than traditionally used in industry. Eastwood offers a wide range of powder colors in quantities and costs that the home hobbyist can afford. With the HotCoat system, Eastwood includes an 8-oz. can of black powder which covers the equivalent of two to three aerosol cans of paint and costs less. The can is recyclable and has none of the VOC and disposal hazards of aerosols. The HotCoat system generates essentially zero waste since the user can collect and reuse any over-spray. The Eastwood Company conservatively estimates that the HotCoat powder coating system has eliminated the use of over 30,000 aerosol paint cans with the potential of emitting over 9,900 pounds of solvents into the atmosphere. Since its introduction in early 1988, thousands of customers are using the HotCoat system. More than 3,000 units and 11,000 cans of powder have been sold and sales are increasing exponentially. Eastwood's future plans include introducing its product into non-automotive markets. |
