Replacement of Hard Chrome Plating with Metal Spray (METCO 451 Process)

DEPOT MAINTENANCE PROJECT as of 940923

Type: E
Accession Number: 8985
Code: Completed

Narrative:

Chromium concentrations and treatment are a major cause of problems at the Industrial Waste Treatment Plant. Where possible, metal spray using the Metco 451 process, is used as a replacement for hard chrome plating. When chrome plating is performed, new procedures require parts to be spray rinsed over the chromic solution, putting the chrome back in the vat instead of in the rinse water. Chromium effluent from the Plating Shop to the Industrial Waste Treatment Plant has been reduced 80%. Parts are reclaimed now that were previously replaced with new parts because it was not economically feasible to chrome plate them.
