Narrative:
The Hazardous Materials Information System is a Department of Defense data base maintained by the DGSC. It was established for the collection, maintenance and dissemination of data on hazardous material. This system is made available to all individuals within the Federal government who need to know how to properly handle, store, transport, use and dispose of hazardous material. There are over 60,000 items currently on file including the Material Safety Data Sheets which have been provided by contractors when hazardous materials are procured. The data base is currently provided to 13,000 users on microfiche and 5,000 users on CD-ROM. Hazardous Material Technical Information Service (HTIS) provides DOD agencies and services with a data base containing information on Federal, State, and local regulations and laws applicable to the packaging, storing, transporting, and disposal of environmentally regulated material and waste. This service provides specific answers to questions related to hazardous materials and waste.
