ABSTRACT

The Decision Maker's Guide to Solid Waste Management, Second
Edition [although cover says Volume II] (DMG2) provides
detailed information that can help communities  successfully
implement integrated municipal solid waste (msw) management
programs.  It covers key technical, legal, economic,
political, and social issues that must be addressed to
develop effective waste management programs.  Detailed
guidance is provided on collection & transfer, source
reduction, recycling, composting, combustion, and land
disposal of solid waste. The first edition, published in
hardcopy format by EPA in 1989, introduced the concept of
integrated waste management, and addressed the issues
covered in this publication in a more general manner.
