Detailed guidance is provided on collection & transfer, source reduction, recycling, composting, combustion, and land disposal of solid waste. The first edition, published in hardcopy format by EPA in 1989, introduced the concept of integrated waste management, and addressed the issues covered in this publication in a more general manner.
