Glass Packaging Institute
The Glass Packaging
Institute represents the glass container manufacturing industry of North America in
the areas of advocacy, marketing, education and recycling. GPI monitors pending regulatory
bills and builds, or participates in, coalitions to keep a watchful eye on the legislative
activities of local, state and federal governments to ensure that the industry enjoys a
level playing field. GPI also promotes glass to the marketing and packaging executives in
the food and beverage industry who decide whether of not to package products in glass. GPI
is exploring new programs, partnerships, and communication tools to bring glass container
manufacturers closer together.
GPI and its member companies have been at the forefront of efforts to establish
comprehensive curbside recycling programs in communities across the nation. GPI's ongoing
educational outreach is targeted to young recyclers, municipalities, solid waste managers,
waste haulers and consumers. Through GPI's home page on the World Wide Web, teaching
guides, university-level academic programs, trade show participation, newsletters and
more, the Association disseminates important information on glass container recycling. The
glass industry is proud of the fact that the glass container recycling rate continues to
increase and that more than one in three glass containers sold in the United States is
recycled.
