Pollution Prevention Challenge Grant Proposals Due May 15
The North Carolina DPPEA again is challenging state businesses and industries to develop and implement innovative projects to eliminate, prevent, and/or reduce the generation of wastewater, air emissions, and solid and hazardous waste. Project funding is available for up to $15,000. However, businesses with fewer than 100 employees are eligible to receive up to $20,000. Wood Waste Reduction Grants Due April 9
Projects eligible for funding will reduce the flow of wood byproducts to disposal facilities. Examples of eligible projects include, but are not limited to: equipment purchase to establish or expand wood waste processing, marketing, or end-use; establishing cooperative processing between several facilities using stationary or mobile equipment; using wood for reuse or as manufacturing feedstock; and developing or encouraging other end-use applications of wood byproducts. Both public and private entities are eligible to apply for funding up to $25,000 per project. DOE Seeks Applications for Grant Money
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will be seeking applications for
the National Industrial Competitiveness through Energy, Environment
and Economics (NICE3) grant in the fall of 1998. Companies can receive
up to $400,000 matching grant money for the commercialization of
innovative technologies that reduce energy consumption, reduce waste,
and improve 
industrial
competitiveness. The DOE will be accepting pre-proposals in the
spring.
Three North Carolina companies previously have received funding for NICE3 projects. These companies are: Sara Lee Knit Products for the development of color removal and brine reuse filtration technology; Drinkard LLC for the development of an electric arc furnace dust conversion technology; and Natvar for the development of a new ultraviolet curing process for fiberglass sleeving.
